Homemade Strawberry Vodka Recipe

Homemade Strawberry Vodka Recipe

I made Homemade Strawberry Vodka and all other vodkas are now cancelled… 😀

Since we’re all trying to reduce our carbs (besides a weekly chips and salsa binge 😛 ) I have been playing with unique ways to drink that don’t include beer and wine—and frankly I’ve never felt better. So, when I heard a true crime documentary mention Strawberry Vodka I did a double take! They definitely were sipping a real infusion of fresh berries in vodka, and that my friends, sounded incredible.

So, this recipe is a real strawberry vodka– an infusion of fresh organic strawberries in premium vodka. It turns bright red and fragrant with the aroma of sun kissed strawberries and is 10 times better than artificially flavored strawberry vodka.

Strawberry Vodka Recipe

This Homemade Strawberry Vodka Recipe is a low carb cocktail option, as well as KETO!! YAY!!

If you want it sweet, you can even add a little of my Keto Simple Syrup made with Erythritol, which we keep right there.

(Or, in the Strawberry Vodka Recipe below, I have instructions for turning this into a liqueur with simple syrup.)

LET”S GET STARTED!!!!

First, we’re going to start off with 2 lbs. of organic strawberries. (Yep, they have to be organic.)

Since alcohol is a solvent, it’s important to reduce any impurities like pesticides on the fruit. Solvents dissolve other substances into themselves so buying pesticide free strawberries will insure that your strawberry vodka is pure and pesticide free!

Just between us, I think organic strawberries taste better. This might even be worth a trip the farmer’s market if you have one near you.

But just to be sure, place the strawberries in a colander and rinse for 2 minutes. This will also remove any dirt or debris.

Move all of the strawberries to a clean work space and start by cutting or pulling the stems off. Then, dice the strawberries into small pieces. I like to remove the stem, then cut the strawberry in half, and cut each half into thirds. (It’s easier to see in our video demo above!)

Your finished diced strawberries will look like this! Beautiful and fragrant for our homemade strawberry vodka!

Next, transfer them into a large vessel that you can pour the vodka over and let them steep for a day or so…

I found it really important to use VERY GOOD VODKA! Why? Because the final strawberry vodka tastes amazing and you’ll want to sip it straight. I also found the final strawberry vodka was very high in alcohol content, so I wanted to minimize a nasty hangover.

Higher priced vodkas are more expensive because they have been distilled more times than cheaper vodka. This removes more and more of the impurities that contribute to a hangover such as fuzzy brain, and headaches the day after drinking. Trust me, it’s worth it to buy a good vodka for this infusion. Also, add a squeeze of lemon juice to bring out the flavors.

Cover with foil, and let it sit about 36 hours…. (If it goes over 48 the flavor will change to more of a jammy strawberry flavor.)

Homemade Strawberry Vodka Recipe

After 36 hours, prepare to strain and bottle the homemade strawberry vodka! I am using a sieve, a cheap plastic funnel, and an old sanitized Bragg’s vinegar jar that I sent through the dishwasher. These vinegar jars are a perfect fit for a liquor spout, which makes it easy and convenient to serve your strawberry vodka.

Strain out all the strawberries. As you can see in the video, there is not much left of them. All of the flavor and aroma has infused into the vodka so they won’t be useful for much. They have soaked up A LOT of vodka so they could be used inside jello shots, party punch, etc. (But how often do you make those things? If you make those things often, let’s be friends. 😛 )

And now the strawberry vodka can be poured into pretty jars and served…

Homemade Strawberry Vodka Recipe
Yield: 1 bottle of vodka, infused

Homemade Strawberry Vodka

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Inactive Time: 1 day
Total Time: 1 day 10 minutes

This homemade strawberry vodka pairs the fresh summer flavor of ripe strawberries and infuses them into your favorite vodka! Use it for cocktails, and front porch sitting, or as a gift for friends and loved ones.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds organic strawberries
  • 750 mL Good Quality Vodka (distilled more than 8 times - Tito's, Kruto, Grey Goose, etc.)
  • 1 good squeeze of fresh lemon juice
  • 1 large vessel for storing the vodka

Instructions

  1. Start by placing the strawberries in a colander and running cold water over them for 2 minutes.
  2. Transfer the strawberries to a clean workspace and remove the green tops. Chop the strawberries and place them into a large vessel. (See the demo video)
  3. Pour the vodka over the strawberries, covering them completely.
  4. Cover loosely with foil and allow them to sit for about 32-36 hours. Anything over 48 hours will change the flavor to a more jammy strawberry flavor, rather than fresh.
  5. Using a sieve, drain the strawberries out. They can be thrown away because the flavor and color will have seeped into the vodka. The only use for them would be another alcoholic beverage such as jello shots, jungle juice, etc.
  6. Pour the final sieved vodka into a bottle and chill. Enjoy!! It's quite strong so use caution, and always drink responsibly!

How long will this stay good? Does it need to be refrigerated?

I recommend refrigerating it. I tried to keep mine in the freezer and it froze! I have never left it out on the counter top because I am certain it would change the flavor.

For vodka infusions I recommend trying a sous vide, really cuts down the time it takes to get a usable product. You can infuse and drink the same day without sacrificing the flavor. I often make a vodka with fresh mint and cucumbers out of my garden and it's fantastic.

Thanks Kristi! That's really interesting. I don't have a sous vide machine but that makes sense. Love fresh cucumbers from the garden!
