Supplies:

  • Serving platters or boards for sliced apples

Instructions

Prep the Apples:

  1. Wash and core the apples, then slice them into thin wedges.
  2. If you want to prevent browning, place the apple slices in a bowl of cold water mixed with a little bit of lemon juice for 5 minutes. Drain and pat the slices dry.

Arrange the Setup for the DIY Toppings Bar:

  1. Lay out the apple slices on a large serving platter or board.
  2. Heat chocolate chips or caramel in the microwave in 40-second bursts to melt the chocolate. Pour the caramel sauce and melted chocolate sauce into mason jars and provide spoons for drizzling.
  3. Place the toppings into individual bowls and arrange them around the apple platter. Place the mason jars in the slow cooker filled with a little hot water to keep them warm. Set slow cooker to low.

Serve:

  1. Encourage guests to grab a plate, layer apple slices, drizzle with caramel or chocolate sauce, and add their favorite toppings.
  2. Provide toothpicks, small forks, or tongs to make it easy for guests to pick up and eat their apple "nachos."

Notes

For our bar, we used 1 bag of dark chocolate chips and 1 bag of white chocolate chips melted in 40 second bursts until liquid and poured into jars. The chocolate melts easiest in the microwave stirring between cooking.

Caramel Dip can be purchased in jars at the grocery store in the ice cream toppings area.
